Cut the build time nearly in half by streaming instead of buffering. Measured first, then changed one thing.
Rewrote the hot path in Ruby. cold-start time dropped noticeably. Read the flamegraph before touching anything.
Deleted 204 lines and the tests still pass. Best kind of PR.
